VR in School Education & Civic Participation

The project was developed as a 24-month transnational collaboration aimed at responding to the growing need for digitalisation and innovation in school education. It brought together schools, research organisations and technology partners from several European countries in order to explore new learning environments and participatory educational models

The project sought to provide students with a new learning experience through immersive and interactive tools, while helping teachers adopt updated teaching methods and digital educational practices. It also aimed to strengthen civic awareness, critical thinking, digital competences and intercultural understanding.

At the core of the project was the development of a Virtual Reality game simulating the European Youth Council. Through this immersive environment, students were invited to express views, discuss key issues and engage with topics such as:

• safe use of the internet and social media

• bullying and cyberbullying

• human rights and multiculturalism

• European citizenship and rights

• environmental behaviour

• sustainable growth and circular economy

The project combined the VR simulation with physical workshops and online MOOC courses, enabling students and teachers to familiarize themselves with innovative learning tools while developing their knowledge on the project’s thematic areas.

The project included the development of:

• a handbook with thematic content, methodology and learning outcomes

• online MOOC courses under the CEREBRUM e-learning platform

• the Virtual Reality game and simulation environment

• a user guide for teachers and students
