Sustainable Transition Strategy for Northern Evia

Strategic study and digital initiatives supporting the sustainable economic transition of Northern Evia following the devastating wildfires.

Background

Following the catastrophic wildfires that affected Northern Evia in 2021, the need for a sustainable economic transition became urgent. Local communities faced significant challenges related to employment, environmental restoration and long-term regional resilience.

In collaboration with Elpedison and the Municipality of Istiaia-Edipsos, our team developed a strategic framework supporting the transition towards new sustainable economic activities and environmental awareness.

Strategic Study

We developed a technical study exploring alternative employment pathways for the region, identifying:

• emerging professions related to sustainable development
• required knowledge and skills for future employment
• opportunities linked to circular economy and green growth

The study also included a strategic action plan for sustainable development in Northern Evia, with proposals for environmental, social and corporate responsibility initiatives.

Environmental Information & Education Portal

To support public awareness and education, we designed and developed a digital educational portal for the Environmental Information Center of the Municipality of Istiaia-Edipsos.

The platform provides educational material tailored for different age groups (from 6 years old and above) covering:

• the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
• circular economy principles
• environmental protection and climate awareness
• sustainable lifestyles and local ecosystems

Virtual Reality Learning Experience

As part of the Environmental Information Center, we also developed an interactive Virtual Reality experience that allows students visiting the center to explore sustainability concepts through immersive digital environments.

The VR application supports experiential learning on topics such as:

• ecosystems and biodiversity
• renewable energy
• circular economy systems
• sustainable cities

Impact

The project combined strategic planning, education and digital innovation, contributing to the long-term sustainable development vision of Northern Evia and supporting the region’s transition towards a more resilient and environmentally responsible future.
